World of Warcraft (WoW) is still one of the most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The game was first announced in 2001, and was released for the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise on November 23, 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, around four years after the events after Blizzard’s previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Since its launch, World of Warcraft has had eight major expansion packs: The Burning CrusadeWrath of the Lich KingCataclysmMists of PandariaWarlords of DraenorLegionBattle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands

Like with other MMORPG games, a player controls a character avatar within a game world in first or third-person view, exploring the landscape, completing quests, and fighting monsters. Also interacting with non-player characters (NPCs) or other players all around the globe. World of Warcraft is not free to play. It requires the player to pay for a subscription by or using a WoW Token purchased in-game. Players without a subscription may use a trial account that lets the player character reach level 20 but has many features locked.
