...right up until I saw the ending. It was so off key with the rest of the film. It was all about Neville realizing that he was legend (or more accuratly 'demon') to the Dark Seakers, and that they were smarter than he gave them credit for, It had nothing to do with humanity. The ending was so bad I got the DVD and made the rest of it suck.
Thankfully, my fears were demolished when I saw the Alternative Ending. It captures the spirit of the film much better and while TECHNICALLY Robert Neville has to die to become legend, it shows that the dark seekers were more than just zombie/vampires
anybody else share these thoughts?

I totally do! i was like... what the..?! at the ending.. :O and another small thing: why didnt he keep his dog in a cell, and try to.. cure it when/if he found the cure?
i know, it would probably be horrbile to see his best friend turn into a monster like that, but still.. thats what i would have done.. :)

Exactly the same as you guys. Loved it loads right up until the end. It felt rushed and a little... underwhelming? I dunno, haven't seen the alternate ending but any other than the one in the film would have done. And the dog? As a dog lover/owner twas' a bit weepy seeing it turn into a zombie or whatever they are.

I actually like the Dog death scene. Neville couldn't put the dog in a cage cos he was too weak to. Kind of cheap but :|
