He didn't really swear as such, he just used blaphemous language. Certain people may take offense, such as Christians (As I am) but blaphemous language is widely accepted in the public community. Also many parents tend to exhibit blaphemous language towards their children. So really blaphemous language nowadys is really thought as a lesser curse by most people although the Bible states different. But over the years the church's power has slowly diminished and with it most of it's authority.
