Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days is the new game in the Kingdom Hearts series.
It is for Nintendo DS and explains Roxas time in the Organization between Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
Graphics: The graphics are in full 3D and is definitely among the best
for a DS game. Everything is very detailed. Some cutscenes even have
the same graphics as the PS2 games. The only complaint I have about the
graphics is that your weapon is in 2D, but that is only visible in a
few cutscenes and is easily overlooked.
Sound: Most of the music is just reused form the earlier games, but
that is not a bad thing. The Kingdom Hearts series has among the best
game soundtracks I have heard. The new music is also really good. The
previously mentioned cutscenes with PS2-graphics are also fully voiced.
The rest of the game have no voice except for some battle quotes and
few words.
Story: You really have to play or at least know the story of the previous games to fully understand the story of this game, but can enjoy it anyway.
This game is about Roxas and his time in Organization XIII.
We get to see more of his friendship with Axel and also a new girl,
Xion, who also have a Keyblade. The first half of the game doesn't have
much story, it's mostly just Roxas doing normal missions for the
Organization. The second half however, is where the story really kicks
in and gets good. I can't really tell you anything more without
spoiling it, but it's a good story.
Gameplay: The general gameplay is very similar to Kingdom Hearts 1, but
the combat feels a lot more smoother. The main differences from the
previous games is that you only have a set amount of magic uses for
each mission and that you have a extra strong special-attack that you
can use when your health is low.
There is also a "panel" system. Every
item, magic, weapon, ability and even levels are gained as panels. The
panels that youwant to use are then placed on a grid. The grid is
getting bigger as the story progresses, alloweing you to carry more
panels. This system allows you to easily customize you grid to your
playstyle.
Unlike the previous games, this game has a mission system.
Instead of traveling to different worlds in order like in the Kingdom
Hearts 1 and 2, this games has you going out on different missions to
different worlds and doing different things, not necessarily connected
to the main story. You can also replay any previous mission at a later
time if you wish to.
This game also features a multiplayer mode with 18
different characters where you can replay most of the story missions
with your friends. During multiplayer you retain all your things from
story mode, and all new things you gain is also saved on your normal
savefile. You can also play "multiplayer" yourself, allowing you to try
all the different characters and gain extra items for your save file.
Replay value: The story mode takes about 25-30 hours, and if you want to complete all extra things in the game I can easily imagine it take more than 50 hours. There is alse three difficulty modes and a really fun multiplayer mode, so this is one the longest DS games I've seen.
Worth it?: If you have played any previous Kingdom Hearts game and liked it, this is a definite must-have. Even if you haven't played any KH games before and are just looking for a good game, this is in my opinion the best DS game I have ever played.
10/10
